LAHORE: Pakistan Railways on Monday announced a measure enabling passenger to re-attain misplaced tickets through its “Duplicate Ticket Generation System”.

Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique inaugurated the system at Pakistan Railways headquarters in Lahore.

The system has been introduced after railways minister received numerous complaints from passengers regarding their sufferings in case of misplacement of their original tickets.

According to Pakistan Railways’ old rules, train traveler’s ticket was considered a currency note and could not be re-issued which was also mentioned in terms and conditions of railways tickets.

However, railways minister constituted a committee of railways officials to cope with the issue, after a complaint received through social media.

While briefing to media at the time of inaugurating the system, Khawaja Saad Rafique said that from now, the passenger will receive a detailed text message at the time of purchasing the ticket, mentioning his seat number, train and its time. He said that in case of losing a ticket, one could get a duplicate ticket by sending his/her CNIC number at railways special help line 9117.  Saad said that passenger traffic for Pakistan Railways had surged up to 200 million and in a bid to modernise its system, it was already running E-Ticketing with great success.
