KARACHI: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has said that the government has ensured transparency in all the development projects in the country.

Addressing the inaugurating ceremony of the Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) terminal at Port Qasim in Karachi on Sunday, he said that the terminal has been completed within the record time of 330 days.

He said that the bidding for LNG terminal was completely transparent, and the terminal is second of its kind and will facilitate in transporting LNG to power house for producing cheap energy.

“Earlier governments’ efforts to bring LNG to Pakistan remained unsuccessful,” he said.

He said so far 100 cargo ships loaded with LNG have arrived at the first terminal. The terminal has a capacity to handle 750 million standard cubic feet gas per day.

The premier also visited LNG terminals two and three and was given a detailed briefing on the projects.

The supply of LNG from the two terminals is expected next year.

He also praised the contribution of the private sector in the effort.

Everyone thought it would take Pakistan years to establish such a terminal, he recalled.

“This is a success story,” he stated further.

The premier earlier visited Karachi on August 12 during which he announced a Rs 25 billion development package for the city.

Abbasi, who was elected as the country’s premier earlier this month following Nawaz Sharif’s disqualification, served as the petroleum and natural resources minister in Sharif’s cabinet.

At present, Abbasi also retains the portfolio of the newly-formed ‘energy ministry’, which incorporated the ministries of power and petroleum.
