- Out of 10, Kotli is state’s largest district
The current total population of Azad Jammu Kashmir has soared to over four million from calendar year 1998, as recorded in recently-concluded sixth Housing and Population Census.
Census Commissioner Raja Tariq Mahmood said that in the recently-conducted population census 2017, the population of the Kashmiri state had now increased to 4,045,366 persons (both genders) from 2,972,501 persons according to the census-1998.
Giving the district-wise breakup of the population, he said that the number of persons registered in Muzaffarabad district were 650, 370, Neelam district 191,251, Jhleum district 230,529, Bhimber 420,624, Mirpur 456,200, Kotli 774,194, Bagh 371,919, Sudhanoti 297,584, Poonch 500,571 and Haveili 152,124.
