Cabinet, ECC likely to take key decisions on Tuesday

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has summoned two important meetings on Tuesday to discuss and give approval to certain amendments in Rules of Business, 1973, and to various projects of petroleum division, it was learnt reliably.

The meetings of the federal cabinet and the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) will be chaired by Prime Minister Abbasi to discuss important national issues and take key decisions over the amendments in the Rules of Business, 1973, proposed by the Cabinet Division and the summaries forwarded by the Petroleum Division for necessary approval.

The Cabinet Secretariat has already circulated agenda of the two meetings with the ministries and the divisions. Both the meetings will be held here in the Cabinet Room at the Prime Minister’s Office in Islamabad. “Summaries have already been circulated vide Cabinet Division’s letter dated August 21, 2017,” the Cabinet Secretariat’s letter issued on August 25 said.

According to eight point agenda of the cabinet, the meeting will get briefings on important matters from the Revenue Division, Cabinet Division and National Food Security Division besides taking decisions on certain amendments in the Rules of Business, 1973, sought by the Cabinet Division and working of the National Food Security Division.

It is learnt from the agenda that the meeting will take up amendments in the guidelines of the Prime Minister’s Global SDG’s Achievement Programme, exemption of two road projects of the Ministry of Kashmir Affairs & Gilgit-Baltistan from applicability of the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority Rules 2004, amendments in the Rules of Business, 1973, Cabinet Decision-Amendments in the Rules of Business, 1973, transfer of Sandik Copper Gold project to Balochistan, amendment in Rule 17(1) of Rules of Business, 1973, briefing on the working of the National Security Division.

The cabinet meeting will also get briefing from briefing on broadening the tax base 2013-17 and onwards from the Revenue Division. Similarly, the National Food Security Division will brief the meeting about its working.

Prior to the cabinet meeting, the prime minister will also hold a meeting of the cabinet’s Economic Coordination Committee at the same day. The meeting will discuss and give approval to the summaries forwarded by the Petroleum Division and the National Food Security and Research Division.

According to the secretariat, ECC will take up 10-point agenda that will include allocation of gas from Sofiya field, LPG air mix projects-sovereign guarantee for SSGCL, re-allocation of gas from existing fields, determination and notification of UCH-II gas price, allocation of gas from Makori deep field, financing of 1.2 billion cubic feet per day (BCFD) capacity RLNG-III pipeline project (Karachi to Lahore) to be undertaken by M/s SSGCL and SNGPL, marketing of diesel oil conforming to Euro-IV and Euro-V specifications under deregulated environment, review of oil marketing companies (OMCs) and dealers margins on petroleum products and issues of wheat subsidy in Gilgit-Baltistan by the National Food Security and Resources Division.
