AJK on high alert as Dengue spreads in KP

 

The widespread of Dengue virus in the neighbouring Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province has threatened Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), and the AJK government has sent a message to the concerned department, who are preparing to launch an awareness drive in the region.

Muzaffarabad deputy commissioner announced to observe August 29 as Dengue day in the capital city to create awareness among masses about the precautionary measures against the epidemic.

The deputy commissioner presided over a meeting of the health and related departments to finalise a strategy to cater the possible outbreak of the disease and directed all concern departments to launch early drive to eliminate mosquito larva and create awareness about the precautionary measures.

A rally will be organised from Apar Ada (middle of City), which will march on different roads to create awareness about the threat and precautionary measures, which will be participated by health department officials, members of civil society and traders.

District health officer Dr Kamran Riaz told the meeting that there had been 383 cases of dengue were reported last year, while during this year, only 3 cases were reported so far; but the wide spread in KP posses dangers for Azad Kashmir.
