Railways to utilise NADRA’s services for digitisation: Khawaja Saad

Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique has said that Pakistan Railways would avail NADRA’s services for various automation and digitisation projects in future.

While talking to media at Railway headquarters in an MoU ceremony, he said that Pakistan Railways is coming out of its 125-year-old shell and we are on the road to modernisation and digitisation, adding that as a step towards good governance and better service delivery, Pakistan Railways has signed an MoU with NADRA for issuance of digitised secure employee card on Saturday.

Describing the details of teh MoU, Khawaja Saad said, “In first phase, the information pertaining to employee including date of appointment, retirement, personal information, designation, pay scale and family chart would be verified and registered by NADRA before issuance of digitised employee card; while in the next phase, the same card would be issued to the family members of the employees.”

“The digital employee card would hold all the necessary information of an employee which will be verified duly by NADRA and Pakistan Railways, MIS tracking would provide details of service related data,” he added. He said that this breakthrough step would bring a visible change in Human resource management of this huge department with approximately 76,000 employees and 96,000 sanctioned strength. The record of all Railways personal would be available on a single click.

The minister said that Pakistan Railways currently has thousands of employees on its pay roll, to redress the structural flaws and past maladministration, the institution has already started work on restructuring, which is in its last phase and would be completed in February next year. “Before this, Pakistan Railways Information technology department has introduced e-ticketing system, its mobile app users are over 1.5 lacs in number, it has sold over 52 crore mobile tickets till date and every month its users are increasing”, he added.

Khawaja Saad said that complete digitisation, developing common digital platform, integrated information of employees would bring transparency in the system, terminate ghost categories and manage employees, thereby reduce the management cost, save time and bring efficiency in service delivery. The MoU was signed by Punjab NADRA DG Col Nouman and Pakistan Railways IT Director Fahad Rehman. Qaiser Iqbal and Zahid Ranjha, represented NADRA and Pakistan Railways CEO Javed Anwar, Advisor to Minister on Railways Anjum Perveiz also attended the ceremony.
