LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Primary & Secondary Health Imran Nazir has said that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are praying for CM Shehbaz Sharif and experts of the Punjab Health Department for providing timely help and medical treatment to the dengue patients, as well as for training clinicians of Peshawar in case management. He said that the Peshawar High Court also appreciated the expertise of Punjab in dengue control which is a pride for us.
He said this while addressing a meeting of medical superintendents of all the DHQ and THQ hospitals at a local hotel on Saturday. Health Secretary Ali Jan Khan, PSPU Director Muhammad Khan Ranjha, Additional Secretary Dr Farrukh Manzoor, and others attended the meeting.
Imran Nazir said that DHQ hospitals of Sheikhupura and Attock have achieved the target of MSDS set by the Punjab Healthcare Commission. The minister said that it is a sign of dedication, hard work and professionalism. He advised that other hospitals should follow these hospitals. Nazir further said that the government has doubled the medicine budget of DHQ and THQ hospitals and good quality medicines are being provided to the patients.
He directed all the medical superintendents to take immediate foolproof actions to check Congo and H1N1 influenza and that separate wards be set up for such patients.
Earlier, Health Secretary Ali Jan Khan directed that all officers should adopt open door policy for the people and facilitate general public coming for the solution of their day to day issues. Ali Jan Khan said that the health week which was observed few days back was a very successful experience, under which, integrated blood screening, vaccination and counseling camps had been set up in all the health facilities. He said that keeping in view the success rate of this campaign, permanent desks are being set up at DHQ level for blood screening of different diseases.
He said that as a pilot project, permanent desks for integrated blood screening camps would be set up at DHQ Hospitals Sheikhupura, Kasur and Nankana Sahib. He disclosed that anesthetics at DHQ and THQ hospitals, apart from their salary, are getting special consultant allowance. Moreover, Rs 2,500 is also being paid to them as a fee for each surgery. He said that this initiative provided a handsome financial support for the doctors and the number of surgeries has also been increased. The meeting reviewed ongoing process of revamping the hospitals, installation of CT scan machines, incinerators for hospital waste management for infection control. Out-sourcing of janitorial services, pathological lab services and training and capacity building of the staff also came under discussion. The meeting evaluated the individual performance of every hospital on this occasion.
NEW BUILDING COMPLETED AT SERVICES HOSPITAL:
Meanwhile, Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Secretary Najam Ahmed Shah has directed the concerned officers to finalise all the arrangements by 31st August to inaugurate a newly constructed nine-storey building of outdoor and inpatient department in Services Hospital which has been completed at a cost of Rs 1,388 million.
The secretary reviewed the completion of civil works as well as inaugural arrangements of the building. By completion of this project, another 320 beds have been included in the system and pediatrics, psychiatry and endocrine wards have been shifted to the new building. Four lifts have been installed in the block to facilitate the patients. The secretary directed that all the process of testing and technical work of fire-fighting system, generators, HVAC system and other important matters must be completed by 31st August so that the building could be formally inaugurated.
