Police on Saturday arrested the last accused—Mehboob Ghufran, alias Shehzada—involved in the murder of the then Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) managing director Shahid Hamid.
Ghufran was arrested from Jamshoro, police said, adding that he was the last accused in Hamid’s murder case.
It is crucial to note that he was present with Minhaj Qazi and Saulat Mirza at the time of Hamid’s killing in 1997 in Karachi.
Polices said Ghufran drove all the accused, including Qazi and Mirza, to the site; after murdering Hamid, took them all to his residence, where they spent the night.
Mirza was arrested in 1998 at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport. After investigation, he named his accomplices and confessed to have killed Hamid.
He was sentenced to death by an anti-terrorism court. In 2015, Mirza was executed in Machh jail of Balochistan.
On the other hand, Qazi was picked up by Rangers, but he was later handed over to the police, formally being arrested in Hamid’s murder case.
