Held meetings with Dr Yasmin and workers of constituency
LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has begun the campaign for the by-election of NA-120 himself, as he arrived in Lahore on Saturday and spent the whole day chairing different meetings to review arrangements for the by-election which is scheduled for September 17.
There are two provincial assembly seats (PP-139 and PP-140) that fall under NA-120 and Imran Khan met with the Union Councils coordinators hailing from PP-139 on Saturday, while he would spent his Sunday, meeting with the coordinators of PP-140 to finalise the campaign matters related to the NA-120. After chairing the hectic meetings of PP-139 on Saturday, Imran Khan briefly talked to the media persons present at chairman secretariat and said that the election of NA-120 will show which side the people of Pakistan are standing with; whether they are standing with the Supreme Court or if they are supporting a culprit who has plundered billions of rupees from the national exchequer, he said.
Imran Khan further added that the NA-120 by-election is significant and urged every worker of PTI to visit each and every voter of the constituency in order to convince him/her to cast their vote for Dr Yasmin Rashid – the candidate of PTI. “You have to convince the voter that the future of Pakistan cannot be secured until we get rid of this corrupt mafia plaguing the country,” he said, while adding that Nawaz Sharif could not prove his innocence before the apex court, despite being given more than a year in the Panama case.
While earlier in the day, PTI candidate for NA-120 Dr Yasmin Rashid held a separate meeting with Imran Khan and briefed him regarding her door-to-door campaign in the constituency. Moreover, she also briefed Khan regarding her contacts with other political parties contesting the election, as Pakistan Awami Tehreek-backed candidate withdrew his nomination papers in the favor of Dr Yasmin and her efforts were highly appreciated by Khan. It is pertinent to mention here that Imran Khan has given special task to two senior leaders of the party in NA-120 as party’s former president from Punjab, Ijaz Chaudhry, has been made in-charge of the campaign in PP-140 while the incumbent president of Punjab, Aleem Khan, has been given a task to monitor the campaign in PP-139. A senior party leader, who was present in the meetings, told Pakistan Today that Imran Khan will revisit Lahore after Eid-ul-Azha and he is also likely to lead a public rally in NA-120 ahead of the election.
It has also been learnt that special duties have been allotted in every Union council of NA-120 where senior leaders have been tasked to mobilise the workers. MPA Mian Mehmood ur Rasheed will monitor UC-48 while UC-49, 50, 51, 52, 54, 58 would be monitored by MPA Shunila Ruth, Mehar Wajid Azim, Tariq Sana Bajwa, MNA Shafqat Mehmood, MPA Sadia Sohail Rana and Hammad Azhar respectively. Furthermore, MPAs Shoiab Siddiqui, Murad Ras and Mian Aslam Iqbal have been given UCs 65, 66 and 69 respectively.
