LAHORE: Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) on Friday announced to withdraw its candidate from NA-120 by-elections in favour of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

According to reports, a PTI delegation led by opposition leader in Punjab Assembly, called on PAT leaders at Minhajul Quran secretariat. After holding negotiations between the leaders of two parties, PAT announced to withdraw its candidate in favour of Dr Yasmin Rashid of PTI for the NA-120 by-elections.

Awami Tehreek’s candidate Ishtiaq Chaudhry announced to withdraw in favour of PTI while talking to media after the meeting. He said that the by-election was between oppressed and the oppressors and added that the incumbent government had failed miserably.

The PTI candidate thanked him and his leadership for supporting her party in the upcoming by-elections. She also said that the NA-120 election would be a victory of democracy.

Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) has fielded Kulsoom Nawaz as its candidate for the by-elections.  Although candidates of other parties and independents are also contesting, it is however expected that the main contest would be between PTI and PML-N.

The NA-120 seat fell vacant after former premier Nawaz Sharif was disqualified by the Supreme Court in the Panama Papers case on July 28.
