ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal, on Wednesday, said that if elected prime ministers are bound to appear before the courts and comply with their orders then this law also applies to the “retired general”—an allusion to Pervaiz Musharraf, who is facing a treason trial.
He was talking to the media after a visit to the NADRA headquarters.
He said no citizen can evade a trial as no one is above the law in a comment on Musharraf’s self-exile who is currently in Dubai for medical treatment. He said if Musharraf can appear on TV channels, then on what excuse he is not appearing before the court.
Commenting on the failure of implementation of the rule of law, he said a person who had brought the country to the brink of chaos is not being held responsible instead he was being invited to TV channels for interviews.
When asked about US President Donald Trump’s recent remarks about “safe havens for terrorist organisations” in the country, Iqbal said that “[Pakistan’s] commitment to eliminate terrorism is not bound to please or anger a second or third country”.
He added that he does not take any allegations linking Pakistan to terrorism as the truth because “no other country has suffered more from terrorism than Pakistan.”
“We are the biggest victims,” he said. “No country in the world has sacrificed and fought to get rid of terrorism like Pakistan has for the past four years.”
He insisted that Pakistan wants peace in the entire region; however, that goal cannot be achieved by pointing fingers at each other. He also said that elimination of terrorism is vital for the economic development of the country.
General Musharraf appeared in courts through his counsel and was not ever convicted. Ahsen shouldn’t bring Musharraf’s name on his dirty tongue.
Mr Ahsan Iqbal Sb,It seems that you don’t know that our Generals are above the law.Rule of law is for only civilian.
