Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has strongly denounced remarks by US President Donald Trump about Pakistan being a ‘safe haven’ for terrorists.
In a series of tweets, he said that the US blames Pakistan again for its deeply flawed and failed Afghan policy stretching over a decade.
“Just as India blames Pak for the indigenous Kashmiri uprisings when these are a result of its own failed policy of my repression in IOK .. So the US again blames Pak for its deeply flawed & failed Afghan policy stretching over a decade,” he tweeted.

“We fought 2 wars in Afghanistan at the US behest paying heavy human and economic costs both times. We sacrificed 70000 Pak lives in US WOT,” he reiterated.

“Our economy suffered over $100 billion in losses. In addition, there were intangible costs on our society. Time for Pak to say: Never again.”

We must also reject being made scapegoats for the policy failures of the US and India. https://t.co/iDSohH1fOS

In an address that is being touted by many as over the top, Trump took a tough but not a completely unexpected approach regarding Pakistan-US relations, in which he castigated Pakistan for offering safe havens to “agents of chaos”.
“We can no longer be silent about Pakistan’s safe havens for terrorist organisations,” he said, warning that vital aid could be cut.
“We have been paying Pakistan billions and billions of dollars at the same time they are housing the very terrorists that we are fighting,” he said. “That will have to change and that will change immediately.”
Trump’s speech comes amid a month of serious turmoil for his administration, which has seen several top White House officials fired and revelations that members of Trump’s campaign are being investigated by a federal grand jury.
He sought in his address to convince Americans weary of his controversial off-the-cuff remarks. He also sought to pre-empt a backlash from his base who shared his previous disdain for military entanglements on foreign soil.
“I studied Afghanistan in great detail and from every conceivable angle,” he said, hoping to show he has sufficiently pondered the decision to send more young Americans into mortal danger.
USA had used as well as misused the willing Pakistan. Now it is the turn of China to do the same thing to Pakistan. Best of luck.
Its in Pakistan’s interest to become a bridge between Chinese trade to Middle East. India & US are certainly unhappy with this move thats for sure!
This CPEC is not just about trade but also about foreign investment and development of Pakistan. Right now China is our brother just like US was to us as long as we keep getting the money. The moment US floated policies against Pakistan our relationship went sour and same will happen again when China will launch policies against Pakistan to protect its investments made via CPEC. 99% of the development for CPEC is through foreign loans while there’s little to no domestic financing in Pakistan. This means, majority of our revenues will leave Pakistan to service these debts. The problem with Pakistan is the “Ummah” narrative, while we continuously fail to eliminate the aggressors, injustice on our own land and continue to blame foreign forces for our misery. Our approach is nothing but failures just to woo few big players. Our planning for the country are short term with the quick money making schemes. We have been involved in Afghan war no reason, and as Imran Khan mentioned in his tweets; we only care about the dollars coming in. We allow foreign forces to trample us because we have told them that we like to depend on others. We want others to do our work and we are paying the price for it. For the past 25 years, our economy is being run on US aid. Don’t believe me, a quick Google search will help you show how US aid has propelled or at least keep the economy afloat. Until we Pakistanis stand on our own feet, Pakistan will never become prosperous. We need free quality schools, and hospitals, while our politicians are busy making bridges and roads we neglect the basic things that are the foundation for a healthy country. For once, if we stop becoming like Saudi Arabia, Iran, US, UK, etc and try to mold our country into what our fore fathers sacrificed their lives for that was; freedom, diversity, justice, and equality; we will surely prosper. But I think it will never happen because Pakistan is only for the rich, and for the army.
Let us face the truth! USA has never been our friend, it has always been our master..When it says either you are with us or with the terrorists we say —we are with you. When it says we will bomb you to stone ages we say please don’t—we will do the dirty work for you. Keep attacking us with drones and use our own bases and don’t worry about the collateral damage we will ignore it.These are the statements of former Presidents Musharraf, zardari and former PM Gilani. We capitulated from every angle. Our army and politicians became mercenaries and now we are suffering daily blowback effects and how are we rewarded by US? Do more or we will cut off our aid..These are the painful facts. They hurt but what options does Pakistan have? We will do what the master asks.
USA is the beast and you dont say NO in front of a beast unless……
With the corrupt political leaders, and seeing everything from religious angle Pakistan will never able to save its national interest and always work as a client state, previously it was USA, now it is China. Soon Pakistan realize what benefit they are getting with huge loans over market rate in the name of infrastructure project under OBOR. A country which can kill its own people just for political views and where Muslims are sometimes banned from having beards and Arabic name cannot be friend for any country. Pakistan will only realize this in the future.
mran Khan is right. When you become a doormat, you will be treated like a doormat.
