Former England captain Paul Collingwood is in line to be the English representative in the World XI, which is set to tour Pakistan next month for a series of three T20Is.

Earlier, South African duo Imran Tahir and Hashim Amla were also tipped to be a part of the World XI team.

“Paul Collingwood is tipped as a possible candidate for the World XI team, coached by Andy Flower, which will play a three-match series in Pakistan next month as the International Cricket Council (ICC) attempts to bring international cricket back to the country,” The Guardian reported.

According to the report, 41-year-old Collingwood, who is still playing for Durham, will be the only English player in the World XI. Meanwhile, according to sources, West Indies’ Samuel Badree is also in line, along with South African players Faf du Plessis and Morne Morkel.

Talks are being held with South Africa Test captain du Plessis and Amla for captainship of the World XI team, the sources said. Sources further revealed that former New Zealand player Grant Elliot and Bangladeshi duo Tamim Iqbal and Shakeb al Hassan are also in talks for the World XI team’s tour to Pakistan.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Najam Sethi reiterated on Monday that the World XI team will arrive in Pakistan next month to play three matches, which are scheduled for September 12, 13, and 15 in Lahore.

In an interview earlier, former PCB chairman Shahryar Khan had said that that Michael Clarke, Tim Paine, and Luke Ronchi would also be part of the World XI team. However, Clarke had distanced himself from the claims.

The World XI team is likely to have representation from West Indies, Australia, South Africa, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, and Afghanistan.
