PM says govt committed to promote religious harmony

— George-led Christian delegation calls on Abbasi at PM Office

 

 

 

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Monday said that protection of minorities and providing them with opportunities to excel in every field as per their talent and capabilities was priority of the government.

The government was committed to promoting religious harmony in the country, he said while talking to a delegation of Christian community, led by Parliamentary Secretary on Religious Affairs Khalil George that called on him at the PM Office.

Federal Minister for Statistics Kamran Michael was also present during the meeting.  Prime Minister Abbasi appreciated valuable contributions, rendered by the minority communities, especially the Christian community in all walks of life.

He said that the government would continue making every possible effort for addressing the issues faced by the minorities. The delegation included among others Bishop Irfan Jamil, Bishop Ashraf Joseph, Bishop Humphery Sarfraz, Pastor Abraham Daniel, Pastor Imran Fazal, sister Sosan Sardar and sister Martha Taj.

The delegation felicitated Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on behalf of the Christian community on assuming the office of the prime minister. Thanking the prime minister for announcing state funeral for the late Dr Ruth Pfao, the delegation members said that the honour conferred upon her by the government encouraged Christian community to further contribute towards social and humanitarian services across the country.

VANKWANI CALLS ON ABBASI: Member of National Assembly (MNA) Dr Ramesh Kumar Vankwani called on Prime Minister Abbasi. Matters pertaining to development schemes came under discussion during the meeting.

GIRGIN CALLS ON ABBASI: Turkish Ambassador to Pakistan Babur Girgin also called on Prime Minister Abbasi and both the leaders have agreed on further strengthening bilateral ties between Pakistan and Turkey besides bolstering economic cooperation.

Talking to the ambassador, the prime minister said that Pakistan was keen to further strengthen the existing equation especially the economic cooperation with Turkey. Girgin delivered a letter of felicitation from Turkish President to Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on assumption of office of the prime minister.
