Minister announces isolation wards for dengue patients

PESHAWAR: Senior Minister for Health Shahram Khan Tarakai said on Monday that special isolations wards were setup in all the public-sector hospitals of Peshawar for speedy treatment of the patients affected by dengue. Talking to APP, he said that specialist doctors and other relevant staff, have been tasked to provide best medical facilities to the patients and reiterated that no leniency on part of the officials would be tolerated in this regard.

The minister said that a high-level committee, under the chairmanship of the Peshawar deputy commissioner (DC), has been constituted to coordinate with different departments, monitor performance of the field staff and implement the government’s decisions on the ground for controlling the virus.

Implementation of a comprehensive anti-dengue plan has already been started under which every team – comprising a lady health visitor, four members the of anti-dengue fumigation services, local government representative and an official of the revenue department – was taking part in the operation in the most affected areas of Tahkal and Pishtakhara Bala in Peshawar. Specialist doctors’ teams were also working tirelessly to eradicate the dengue larvae.

To a question, the minister said that he appreciated the humanitarian gesture of the Punjab government for sending a team of doctors, for the treatment of patients, to Peshawar.

The minister said that the government would utilise all available resources for the treatment of patients, and would not rest until the last patient is treated.

He appealed to the people to keep tyres at safe places and keep them away from the rain and water. He urged them to remove standing water and conduct anti-mosquitoes spray in furniture offices, showrooms, tyres shops and houses. Besides that, he also advised the people to adopt clean and hygienic conditions which are imperative for the complete eradication of the deadly virus.

The minister said that the virus was a fatal disease and cooperation of the people was required for the disposal of its larva and for wiping out the epidemic completely.
