GILGIT: Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Chief Minister (CM) Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman has inaugurated the Skardu bypass road that would connect Gamba and Nathorgo and will be completed with an estimated cost of Rs 300million. The people of Shakarmang Khaplu would also benefit from this road.
The CM was briefed by the senior officials of Communication and Works Department about the salient features of the project. He was told that a 30 kilometres highway and two new bridges would also be completed.
The CM said that the provision of quality infrastructure was the top priority of his government as roads and bridges would help to expedite the pace of economic development.
He directed the officials to construct the road by adopting all the latest techniques and ensure its timely completion without compromising the quality of work.
He has also directed the authorities concerned to prepare a comprehensive plan for the assessment of damages and losses caused by the floods, besides repair and rehabilitation of all the flood-affected areas for providing relief to the masses.
The CM also constituted a high-level committee, led by the deputy commissioner, for the speedy compilation of data of damages and with a direction to submit the recommendations at earliest for the rehabilitation of infrastructure and other facilities in the flood-affected areas, including Sadpara.
Presiding over a meeting, he said that as a preemptive measure, the latest warning system would be setup at Sadpara. A pavement of protective walls, with the participation of people, would also be built to minimise the damages and losses due to future flooding and other natural calamities.
The CM also announced the construction of a girl’s school at Sadpara.
The CM said that the disaster management system has been strengthened and necessary machinery was provided to all the districts of the province. He said electricity to the Sadpara village would be restored within five months.
Meanwhile, he also visited the flood affected areas of the village and inquired from people about their problems.
The CM also participated in the collective Fateha of five people who died during the floods, at Gulfari Imambargah, and prayed for their eternal peace.
“I equally shared the grief and sorrow of the victim’s families,” he said, adding that his government has provided timely assistance to the affectees.
