LAHORE: South Asia Association of Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Chamber of Commerce and Industry, an apex body in the region, will seek administrative and educational expertise from the Punjab University (PU) for the promotion of common education agenda in the South Asian region.

Talking to the media on Sunday, SAARC chamber Vice President (Pak chapter) and veteran trade leader Iftikhar Ali Malik, said that headed by Vice-Chancellor Zafar Mueen Nasar, the image of the Punjab University regarding quality and efficiency of higher education was disseminating in the region.

He said that shortage of qualified and trained teachers was hampering the efforts in most of the region to enhance the quality of education. On the one hand, recruiting qualified, trained and committed teachers is a challenge, on the other hand, the South Asian countries are facing issues distributing recruited teachers in an equitable manner, he added.

Iftikhar Ali Malik said that participants of the meeting from Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Afganistan and Pakistan were of the view that PU could play a vital role for pursing common education agenda in these countries.
