Reports claim that the Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq is in consultation with his legal team to form and submit a reference against Justice Asif Saeed Khosa under Article 184 in the Supreme Judicial Council for alleged biasedness in his remarks in the Panama case verdict.

Pakistan Today has managed to get the content of the reference which is as follows:

“Unfortunately Mr. Justice Asif Saeed Khosa in his judgment dated 20th April 2017 has attributed failure on the part of Honourable Speaker to inquire into or to investigate the matter or to refer the matter to the Election Commission of Pakistan against respondent No. 1,” read the reference.

“That the Speaker of the National Assembly was elected by majority vote of the House comprising of members from both Treasury and the Opposition and to label him as nominee or loyalist of Prime Minister is a Mis-statement and contrary to facts”.

“This clearly smacks of personal grudge or bias of the Honourable Judge,” wrote Sadiq in the reference.

“Honourable Judge through his conduct has also tarnished the noble image and reputation enjoyed by the judiciary in Pakistan and comity of nations”.

However, PML-N spokespersons claim that no such reference has been filed yet.

It is pertinent to mention that Justice Khosa was a member of the five-member bench which disqualified the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

  1. There is a new game in the town called “the maligning of the juduiciary syndrome”. The disqualified PM opened the inning and his batting partner now appears to be none other than the speaker.
