Nisar to hold important presser on Sunday

Minister for Interior, Ch. Nisar Ali Khan addressing Press Conference at Governor House, Karachi on April 29, 2017.

ISLAMABAD: Former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar announced Saturday to hold an important press conference today (Sunday) at Punjab House, where he will discuss an issue that hasn’t been disclosed as of yet.

He is likely to respond to the allegations hurled by former information minister Pervaiz Rashid during the presser scheduled at 5pm.

Sources suggest that the ex-minister is likely to speak about the country’s political situation as well as PML-N’s internal party matters.

The press conference is crucial in the context of former information minister’s statement, in which he criticised both Nisar and the Interior Ministry. Pervaiz Rashid, in a statement likely aimed at former interior minister Nisar, said: “Decisions have been taken against us while ‘the interior’ [minister] existed, JITs have been created and ‘Whatsapp’ [leaks] have also happened while ‘the interior’ was there.”

However, Nisar, in an apparent reaction to statements made by the former information minister, had said that some people have put the entire blame for their mistakes on the interior ministry and establishment.

“People should tell what help they expected from the interior ministry and should have the moral courage to explain the conspiracies staged against them,” said a statement released by Nisar’s spokesman.

“They should also have the moral courage to not confuse the nation,” the statement added.

In a reference to the Dawn Leaks commission, the former interior minister said that “a five-member committee comprising of members from federal and provincial institutions gave a decision against them.”

Spokesperson to Nisar urged the government to make Dawn Leaks probe report public if he [Pervaiz Rashid] is as innocent as he claims to be.

He said that Rashid should have explained the conspiracy he referred in his statement instead of leaving people solving an apparent riddle that he posed.

The news of the presser accompanied media reports that Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif had appealed to other party leaders to refrain from attacking state institutions in their speeches and avoid any confrontation with organs of the state.

Both Nisar and Shehbaz have previously warned against such posturing.
