Imran Khan demands Ayaz Sadiq’s resignation for filing reference against SC judge

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Saturday called for an immediate resignation of Ayaz Sadiq as National Assembly speaker following the reference filed by the later against Justice Asif Saeed Khosa.

Justice Khosa, who is the senior most judge of the Supreme Court, was part of the five-judge bench which disqualified Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the Panama Papers case.

The reference has been filed under Article 209 of the constitution against Justice Khosa for delivering April 20 verdict in which he questioned Ayaz’s ruling in favour of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

“Speaker Ayaz Sadiq’s reference against Justice Khosa has exposed his mala fide intent of going all out simply to protect Nawaz Sharif’s corruption,” Khan said in a Twitter statement.

“Ayaz Sadiq’s comment that his office is not an investigative agency begs the question how he forwarded reference against me and Jahangir Khan Tarin while rejecting one against Nawaz Sharif?” Khan questioned.

He said Ayaz Sadiq had revealed his bias earlier and now it is clear he is not fit to occupy Office of Speaker NA.

He must resign immediately, added Khan.
