Teachers urged to eradicate extremism, sectarianism

MULTAN: Speakers in a workshop stressed upon the academia to play its role for the elimination of extremism, sectarianism and maintaining peace in the society. They said that teachers should come forward to determine the right direction for the country which would be helpful in bringing peace and tranquillity in the country.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of a three-day national training workshop, Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) Vice Chancellor Dr Bashir Ahmad said that the aim of the training is to promote religious tolerance, collateral peace and altruism in the Pakistani society.

The workshop is titled, “The Role of Faculty in the Protection of Human Rights and Conflict Management”, and is being held under the auspices of Ministry of Religious Affairs, in collaboration with BZU’s Islamic Studies Department.

The VC further said that the accumulation of teachers at this platform was meant to find out ways and means for maintaining peace and harmony in the society.  Islamic Studies Department Chairman Dr Suhaib Qudoos said that extremism had played havoc and proved harmful to our society.  He said that teachers should equip the students with a kind of education which could be beneficial for the society.  Dr Suhaib also said that the Holy Prophet (PBUH), in his last sermon, taught us the lesson of basic human rights.  It is the dire need of the hour, to review our curricula to include human rights, he said.

He urged upon the teachers to play their part to end trends of extremism and sectarianism from youth.
