The Government of Pakistan strongly condemns the cowardly terrorist attack at Las Ramblas in Barcelona, Spain, in which a van ploughed through pedestrians resulting in several deaths and injuries to many innocent people.
According to statement by Foriegn Office on Friday, Pakistan would like to convey profound sympathies for the families and friends of the victims of this terrible act and wish speedy recovery to those injured.
According to information received from the Embassy of Pakistan in Madrid and the Consulate General in Barcelona, there are no reports of any Pakistanis among the dead or injured. Pakistan’s missions in Madrid and Barcelona have set up situation rooms which will continue to operate until required.
Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Friday strongly condemned the attack in Barcelona and said such acts cannot deter the will of people to fight terror.
“Spain and it’s people have a long history of multiculturalism and defense of freedom,” the Prime Minister said in a message and added the people of Spain cannot be scared. He said the terrorists “seek to change people’s ways through fear and terror, underestimate the resilience of good people and the fundamental decency of the men and women they attack.”
The Prime Minister said that “as long as the terrorists underestimate the spirit of the societies they seek to undermine, they will lose.”
