Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) founder Altaf Hussain, on Thursday, received US Congressman Dana Rohrabacher and Khan of Kalat Mir Suleman Dawood Jan, a self-exiled Baloch leader, at the MQM’s secretariat in London, according to a statement issued on the MQM website.
In a meeting that lasted for four hours, Altaf Hussain briefed Rohrabacher regarding the alleged unlawful arrests, torture, enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings of the MQM workers and members of the mohajir community in Sindh, including Karachi by the security forces.
In the meeting, Altaf also informed the congressman about the security forces’ extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances and acts of mistreatment to Balochs.
Congressman Rohrabacher guaranteed Altaf and the Khan to raise these issues in the US Congress and at other forums, the press release said.
The Khan of Kalat and Altaf Hussain agreed on continuing working together for the rights of mohajirs and Balochs.
All three agreed to continue holding such meetings in the near future.
Congressman Dana Rohrabacher has a record of making anti-Pakistan moves in the US Congress but has not always been successful in achieving his objectives.
The Khan of Kalat had left the country in 2007 on the recommendations of a ‘grand Baloch Jirga’ after developing serious differences with the state following the murder of Nawab Akbar Bugti.
The Khan has since then been provided political asylum by the British government and currently lives in London.
