ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA), in the second round of balloting, allotted 330 plots in sectors I-11 and I-12 to rehabilitate and accommodate the land affectees of Islamabad.
The balloting was held at the Jinnah Convention Centre on Thursday evening in presence of a large number of people, of which majority was allegedly comprised of property dealers instead of the affectees. The balloting was in line with the recently announced standard operating procedures (SOPs) by Islamabad Mayor and CDA Chairman Sheikh Anser Aziz to rehabilitate and accommodate the affected.
A few participants, claiming to be the real affectees, objected over the balloting and blamed the CDA Land Directorate (LD) for carrying out a phoney activity to accommodate some property dealers and individuals instead of the victims.
A number of participants told Pakistan Today that the LD allotted plots to the individuals of Chak Shahzad and Mauza Humak in I-11 and I-12 by dodging its new SOPs, which amounted to debauchery. They maintained that despite the imposition of the ban for one year on allotment of plots to land affectees, the culture of allotment could not be changed.
During the balloting, Raja Khawar, an affectee from Sang Jani, objected over the allotment of smaller plots and asked the CDA officials to stop the announcement of their names. He said that they legally deserved larger plots. The officials agreed to the objection and requested the participants to avoid creating any hurdles in the balloting process, promising that the anomalies would be rectified.
The authority allotted a total of 330 plots of different sizes in both sectors. These included 60 plots of 25×50, 50 plots of 25×60, 118 plots of 25×50 and 102 plots of 30×60 sizes respectively.
The balloting was carried out by a committee constituted under new SOPs. The committee was supervised by CDA Member Estate Khushal Khan. CDA deputy commissioner, CDA Land Director (LD)Irfan Marwat, Estate Affectees additional director and a few representatives of the media were also present on the occasion.
The LD said that the process of allotment of the plots to the affectees would continue and the balloting process would be carried out every Friday. He said that those individuals, whose claims had not been cleared in the current ballot, would be included in the next one. He said that the CDA, within the next 10 to 14 days, will start allotment in Kuri where the authority owns 26 thousand kanal.
He further added that though the plots are available in I-12, a whole new sector would be opened for the remaining individuals to settle their claims.
