LAHORE: An application has been filed in the Punjab Assembly against the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) for its inability to prevent terrorism, by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) lawmaker Malik Taimur.
In the current year, 4 terrorist events have occurred in Lahore. Despite receiving prior information, CTD has continued to be unsuccessful. And to hide its shortcomings, CTD has carried out fake encounters like the police.
In Punjab, owing to increasing terrorist activity, the department was formed on the special directives of the CM and was also responsible for curbing sectarian violence. However, CTD has been unable to make any real progress, despite billions being used to fund the project. Neither terrorists nor their accomplices have been arrested.
In Punjab’s capital, four major events have taken place recently, including blasts at Mall Road, Bedian Road, Ferozepur Road and Saggian Bridge. So far, CTD has been unable to produce a report.
According to CTD sources, the number of the car which was used in the blast at Ferozepur Road is LRB9308, registered in the name of Gujranwala’s Imtiaz Ahmad; the number was fake. CTD arrested 3 after investigating for 2 days; the arrested include Excise Motor Branch Inspector Baba Ishaq, Sunny and Ayub Gujar. Inspector Ishaq was responsible for making a duplicate copy of the car used in the blast; whereas Sunny and Ayub Gujar work as agents outside the Excise Department. A few days before the blast, Sunny received a call from an unknown location asking for a duplicate copy of the car in return for a hefty sum. Sunny and Ayub were later able to entice Inspector Ishaq with a bribe to prepare a copy.
An attempt was made to speak to the CTD spokesperson on the matter but he wasn’t available for comment.
To counter a suicide attack the government must install scanners on the entry points of Lahore.
