Daniel Craig has signed up for a fifth James Bond film.On August 15, 2017 Craig publicly confirmed that he will return to his role as James Bond on the Late Show with Steven Colbert.

The first film, Casino Royale, premiered 14 November 2006, and grossed a total of US$594,239,066 worldwide, which made it the highest-grossing Bond film until the release of Skyfall. After the film was released, Craig’s performance was highly acclaimed. As production of Casino Royale reached its conclusion, producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli announced that pre-production work had already begun on the 22nd Bond film.

Roger Moore has starred in the most films, but Sean Connery’s outings made the most money at the US box office.

In 1964, he made a guest appearance as James Bond in the comedy series Mainly Millicent, Moore stated in his autobiography My Word Is My Bond (2008) that he had neither been approached to play the character in Dr. No, nor did he feel that he had ever been considered.

Moore then made Gold (1974), based on a novel by Wilbur Smith for producer Michael Klinger and director Peter R. Hunt (who had directed and edited some Bond films). He was paid $200,000 plus a percentage of the profits.

Connery’s films were also more acclaimed by critics – although Daniel Craig isn’t far behind when the reviews are ranked. He was reluctant to commit to a film series, but understood that if the films succeeded, his career would greatly benefit.

He played 007 in the first five Bond films: Dr. No (1962), From Russia with Love (1963), Goldfinger (1964), Thunderball (1965), and You Only Live Twice (1967)  then appeared again as Bond in Diamonds Are Forever (1971) and Never Say Never Again (1983). All seven films were commercially successful. James Bond, as portrayed by Connery, was selected as the third-greatest hero in cinema history by the American Film Institute.
