Umar Akmal gets trolled on Twitter for ‘verbal abuse’ allegations

Umar Akmal is one cricketer who has been in the news time and again for his less than satisfactory performances over the years. He was once dubbed as the next big thing to have hit Pakistan’s cricketing scene, but the right-handed batsman has constantly failed to impress both the general public and the cricket board.

He has played a total of 16 Tests, 116 ODIs and 82 T20Is, but even then failed to secure a place for himself in Pakistan’s Champions trophy squad, earlier this year. On July 12, 2017, Umar Akmal was officially excluded from Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) list of players who received national contracts, which was yet another blow for his already dwindling career.

He has since been working hard on his fitness in England, making it a point to post pictures depicting the fact on Twitter from time to time.

Latest feather in his cap, however, is the little press conference he did a couple of hours back in which he claimed that he was ‘verbally abused’ by the team’s Coach Mickey Arthur, an atrocity that was witnessed by the Chief Selector, Inzamam-ul-Haq. Inzamam maintains that the coach said nothing to that effect.

Akmal further added that Arthur abused other players as well and that too quite often. He then went ahead and ‘informed’ the PCB that he was unfairly dropped out of the team, and that too without any prior warning!

Arthur, however, denied all these allegations and said that he had just sternly told Akmal to work on his skills and attitude. Not a huge thing to ask if you come to think of it, he was the coach after all! But it seems that Akmal took it to heart. PCB has decided too issue a show-cause notice to the player upon his statement.

The whole matter was almost wrapped up in a matter of hours, but Twitter, as unforgiving as it usually is, made sure to troll Umar Akmal for his recent statement. Umar Akmal started trending on Twitter moments after the initial story broke, and here’s what they had to say about this whole matter.

This is not the first time Akmal has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. In 2014, Akmal got into a fight with a traffic warden for which he was detained at a local police station in Lahore. He was allegedly involved in a fight in an auditorium in Faisalabad some time back, and was also allegedly arrested from an event in Hyderabad.
