International consultative workshop held

LAHORE: The opening ceremony of a 3-day international consultative workshop was organised in Social Work Department, University of the Punjab, to develop guidelines to launch diploma courses on NGO Management and Disaster Risk Reduction.

University of the Punjab Vice Chancellor Zafar Moeen Nasar presided over the ceremony. Social Director General Waheed Akhtar Ansari, Dr Zakria Zakir, Faculty of Behavioral & Social Sciences Dean Iqbal Chawla, Faculty of Arts Dean Dr Raana Malik and a large number of faculty members and students from Punjab University participated in the event.

Regional Head of Community World Service-Asia (CWS), Marvin Pervez, along with other CWS officials also graced the occasion. Social Work Department Chairman Dr Zahid Javed, welcomed the participants and briefed the objectives of the consultation workshop. The vice chancellor appreciated the efforts of the department of Social Work in producing and developing skilled, trained and qualified human resources for the social sector of Pakistan.

He shared that Pakistan is a disaster prone country, facing frequent emergencies and natural disasters. He viewed that Punjab University should take a lead to establish an institute of Disaster Management and Emergency Services to crop competent labour force to deal with these calamities in Pakistan. He further valued the initiatives of the department of Social Work and encouraged the faculty to work with more zeal and zest to capture the market.
