LAHORE: Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Pakistan Siraj-ul-Haq has said that abolishing Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution is aimed to allow access to all cheaters, plunderers and criminals to the Parliament and reins of the country.

Talking to various delegations which called on him at Mansoora on Wednesday, Siraj-ul-Haq said that any attempt to tamper with the Constitution would undermine national unity and harmony and it would be difficult to keep the provinces under the federation.  He said that those talking of abrogating the Constitution were bent upon harming national unity.

The JI chief deplored that after disqualification, Nawaz Sharif had not opted the correct path and had become more arrogant. He said that instead of repenting for his mistakes, the ousted prime minister had started talking of undoing the Constitution. He said that the Constitution could not be amended to benefit an individual, and added that instead of making the Constitution subservient to an individual’s interest, there was a need to be subservient to the law itself.

Siraj-ul-Haq said that corruption had become an epidemic and had spread over all institutions and people holding high offices in the government were amassing wealth because of their official position.  He said that Nawaz Sharif has been the most powerful tool in the corrupt system. He expressed the hope that the conviction of Nawaz Sharif would help control the menace to a great extent.

The JI chief further said that Nawaz Sharif had been afforded several opportunities for his defence; no other person had been provided such concessions. He said that there should be a dialogue for wiping out corruption.

He further said that those complaining of interference by other institutions into politics have not allowed democracy to strengthen in the country, and had instead established dynasties.  He said that whenever a general took over in the past, it was the politicians who welcomed him.

He said that instead of making complaints, the ruling party should put forth positive suggestions for improvement of the situation and the system.

Meanwhile, Siraj-ul-Haq greeted the Akhwanul Muslimeen for their grand victory in the local bodies elections in Jordan.

He expressed the hope that the Akhwanul Muslimeen would emerge as a big force in the general elections in Jordan.

According to results, the Akhwanul Muslimeen has won the Office of Mayor in three out of six major Jordanian cities.
