PFA begins crackdown against energy drinks at educational institutes

LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has begun a massive crackdown against energy drinks available at educational institutes.

PFA’s ban on all types of carbonated and energy drinks officially commenced from August 14.

All companies manufacturing cold and energy drinks have been notified by the PFA that they cannot supply carbonated drinks to any educational institutions.

Director General PFA Noorul Amin Mengal said carbonated drinks are banned in at least 120 countries around the world, keeping in view their adverse effects.

The Punjab Educational Societies Food Standard Regulation 2017, grades the food supplied to schools as red, yellow and green levels.

Mengal said that the board has assigned 701 special operation teams to implement the ban officially.
