ISLAMABAD: Around 50 personnel of Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) have been assigned duties to ensure smooth flow of traffic on Islamabad Expressway, especially at the construction site of the interchange.

The ongoing construction near `Dhok Kala Khan’ interchange will ultimately facilitate the traffic, but for the time being traffic jams are being witnessed there during the rush hours. Traffic clogging at this point has become worse from the last month, as construction is underway.

Many people going to the airport, through the highway, often miss their flights. The situation becomes more troublesome during the rush hours when the people and the students go to their work places and schools.

The expressway is also used for the Very Very Important Persons’ (VVIP) movement, thus multiplying the difficulties.

Following the situation, the police source said that the ITP had deployed more than 50 personnel to maintain the traffic flow during the construction period.

The traffic police official also said that they were focusing on the enforcement of traffic rules, and patrolling was being ensured on the highway to check traffic violations and avoid traffic jams. He said that ‘responsible attitude from the citizens’ was essential and that no matter how heavy a load of traffic was if the motorists were disciplined, there would not be any danger and no traffic jams.

“The ITP has put its foot down, and is making serious efforts in maintaining traffic flow, especially during the days when the construction will be underway,” said the source.
