Pakistan is celebrating its 71st  Independence Day today with a renewed pledge to safeguard the country against any threat and stay united.

Pakistan’s independence day has been the trending topic on different social media websites. Google has introduced a doodle to mark the occasion and the social media giant, Facebook, has also sent a warm message our way to mark the day.

Facebook, in its special message on the 71st independence day of Pakistan, says, “Long live Pakistan! All of us at Facebook wish you a wonderful day celebrating 70 years of Pakistan’s independence.”

The message can be seen on the time line, as soon as you access Facebook today.

The day began with thirty-one gun salute in the federal and twenty-one gun salute in all the provincial capitals.

Special prayers were offered for the prosperity, integrity and solidarity of the country, and for the success of the long drawn struggle of the Kashmiris after Fajr prayers.

Flag hoisting ceremonies are also taking place at provincial capitals, district headquarters and important national institutions.

All the major public and private buildings, roads and avenues have been decorated with national flags, portraits of the national leaders, banners and buntings to mark the day.
