State Council of People’s Republic of China Vice-Premier HE Wang Yang is all set to arrive here today to attend the celebrations of 70th Independence Day of Pakistan.
Wang would be leading a high powered delegation on a two-day state visit to Pakistan commencing from August 13, 2017.
As a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Vice Premier Wang Yang is among the top leadership of China.
Vice Premier Wang Yang is undertaking the visit to Pakistan on the directions of Chinese President Xi Jinping as a special gesture. His visit is a reflection of the all-weather strategic cooperative partnership between Pakistan and China.
A well placed diplomatic official told Pakistan Today that initially China had decided to send a high-level delegation to Pakistan to attend the event.
“As part of its plan to express complete solidarity and brotherhood with Pakistan, China had initially decided that Vice President Li Yuanchao would be leading a delegation to attend the Celebrations,” the source said.
However, the official added that following the recent developments shook the government structure in Pakistan, China decided to downgrade its representation. Now Vice Premier Wang would be leading a delegation,” the official added.
The special visit of Vice Premier Wang underscores the close brotherly and cooperative ties between Pakistan and China and China’s strong political support for Pakistan.
During his visit, the Vice Premier will attend the flag-hoisting ceremony on 14th August as a special guest, and call on the President. He will also call on the prime minister. He will participate in the inauguration ceremony of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects and witness the signing of bilateral MoUs/agreements between the two friendly countries.
Meanwhile, Chinese Ambassador Sun Weidong has expressed his warmest greetings to the people of Pakistan on their Independence Day.
“I wish to convey myself and on behalf of the Chinese embassy warm and sincere greetings to the people of Pakistan on this precious day, the August 14.
He said they were looking forward a strong and prosperous Pakistan. China was prepared to actively participate in Pakistan’s socio-economic development, through CPEC and other bilateral arrangements, he made these remarks of goodwill while addressing a function, held here the other day in connection with the signing of 38 Pak-China trade agreements.
Pakistan will mark its Independence Day at the United Nations with a concert in the General Assembly hall on August 14.
Organised by the Pakistan Mission to the United Nations, the concert will feature acclaimed Sachal Jazz Ensemble, which is a blend of the traditional and the modern music, Radio Pakistan reported.
The concert titled ‘Music Beyond Borders’, is aimed at spreading the message of international peace and harmony at the world stage.
The concert is expected to be attended by diplomats, UN officials and representatives of civil society, media and members of the Pakistani diaspora. The event has already generated much interest and enthusiasm.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to UN Dr Maleeha Lodhi said the concert was an effort to project Pakistan’s soft image and present the country’s rich culture. She said public diplomacy was the most effective way to win hearts and minds, and this aims to do just that.
