KARACHI: A local court on Saturday issued arrest warrants for former Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) member National Assembly (MNA) Farahnaz Ispahani and Advisor to the Sindh Chief Minister Nadia Gabol in a criminal case against them over holding dual nationality.
The local court heard the criminal case against the two leaders of PPP. During the course of the hearing, Ispahani’s counsel said that his client was out of the country for treatment hence she should be given exemption from personal appearance.
Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Prosecutor Advocate Maimoona opposed the plea, saying that the former MNA was using delaying tactics.
She told the court that Supreme Court had disqualified them in 2012 for holding dual nationality and submitting fake affidavits.
After hearing arguments, the court issued the arrest warrant for Nadia Gabol and Farahnaz Ispahani and directed them to appear before the court on September 1.
It is to be mentioned here that on the directives of Supreme Court, the ECP had filed a direct complaint against the lawmakers for holding dual nationality.
