Unidentified attackers kill DSP Traffic, driver in Karachi

KARACHI: A senior officer of the traffic police and his driver were shot dead in the early hours of Friday by unidentified attackers, in the Azizabad area of the city. 

According to reports, these unidentified people were armed with weapons and opened fire on the vehicle as they approached it near Hussainabad area of Azizabad, Karachi. The attack left DSP Muhammad Haneef and his driver, the Sultan, critically injured.

They were immediately taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where they were declared dead by the doctors upon their arrival.

According to details, Hanif was aged 56 and Sultan, 54.

Law enforcement agencies reached the spot to conduct an investigation. Several magazines of a 9mm pistol were apparently used in the attack, as over a dozen shells, from the crime scene, were collected.

Sindh Home Minister Suhail Anwar Siyal expressed grief over the killing of the DSP and his driver and directed for an in depth investigation report to be submitted as soon as possible.

He also directed the police to increase efforts to nab the killers.

This is not the first attack of its kind in the metropolis. On July 24, a traffic police official was martyred and another injured in a similar attack in the Abul Hasan Isphani road area of the metropolis.

On July 21, unidentified assailants opened fire on a vehicle in the Korangi area of Karachi, killing three police officers on the spot.

On June 23, unknown attackers killed four police officials in the city’s SITE area, by firing at their vehicle.
