Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi, has written a letter to the chief election commissioner telling him of his reservations over the code of conduct devised for NA-120 by-poll.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in its notification issued for the NA-120 by-election has stopped all national and provincial assembly members from visiting the constituency for campaigning.

Qureshi while expressing his views to media after sending the letter stated that the opposition parliamentarians should be allowed to visit the constituency as they could offer nothing to the constituents whereas the government candidate would have direct or indirect access to state resources.

He demanded the ECP to remove the following words from the code of elections conduct: “barring the entry of national/provincial assembly members from visiting the constituency”.

We have presented our objections to the ECP as our candidate Dr Yasmin Rashid wants me to participate in her campaign.

He claimed that this way their party chief Imran Khan wouldn’t be able to visit the area whereas Maryam Nawaz and Nawaz Sharif would be able to as they were not members of the assembly. This was the reason why they were forced to take the matter to the ECP.
