Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb rued the fact that, in Pakistan’s 70-year history, no elected prime minister was able to complete his/her mandated term.
Speaking at an event on Friday, the minister of state urged students of politics to ponder over why elected assemblies from time to time were dissolved, adding that parliament is the most independent institution of the country as it is established through the votes of people.
“Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif advanced democratisation in the country,” she said. All constitutional institutions have to respect the parliament by accepting the mandate of people, she maintained.
“We want the rule of masses through democracy, and continuity of democratic term,” she said, urging the participants of the event to study the constitution.
She mentioned that former PM Nawaz Sharif presented himself before accountability and that there is no charge of corruption against him.
