ISLAMABAD: The citizens of the federal capital complained on Friday that the patients face long delays to get beds in the emergency departments of major hospitals of the city, on a daily basis.
Hospitals use emergency corridors and side rooms to accommodate growing number of patients at emergency and other departments of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and Federal Government Poly Clinic (FGPC), said the citizens.
They demanded that the concerned quarters should increase the number of beds in all major hospitals of the capital to ensure the provision of best medical care to patients.
“The existing beds were not sufficient to bear the burden of incoming patients at PIMS and FGPC,” said Irfan Khan, a patient admitted at PIMS.
He said, “I am satisfied with the services being provided by the hospital management but due to limited beds many patients have to return and get admission in private hospitals.”
An official of the Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) said, “The government will improve the services at PIMS and FGPC, as both hospitals were providing health care services to the residents of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, their adjoining areas, Northern Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.”
He said that the government was also working on extension of FGPH and for the said purpose 2.54 acres, adjacent to FGPC, had been allocated.
