Azadi train starts its journey from Islamabad tomorrow

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Railways special Azadi Train will undertake its maiden journey from Islamabad Margalla railway station to Peshawar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), on Saturday.

Managing Director (MD) Carriage Factory Islamabad (CFI) Muhammad Yusuf informed APP that the train would cover about four thousand kilometer long journey in 15 days culminating in Karachi.

“The train will stop at all the big stations for two to three hours where musical programmes and cultural dances by different artists, hosted by Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA), will be organised to entertain the people attending Independence Day celebrations,” he said.

Muhammad Yusuf said that Azadi Train will contain coaches representing the culture and traditions of all the provinces, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

“The main objective behind the Azadi Train is to highlight the aspects of the freedom movement, sacrifices of armed forces for the defence of the country, culture and heritage of all the regions,” said the managing director.

Secretary Ministry of Railways Parveen Agha visited CFI in order to check the making of Azadi Train.  She appreciated the efforts of MD CFI and his team.

The secretary also appreciated the efforts of Rawalpindi and Lahore’s Railways Division for the expedition of Azadi Train.

The train will be inaugurated by the State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb.

This is the third time an Azadi train has been prepared by Pakistan Railways at CFI. Last year, Pakistan Railways had also commenced Christmas Peace Train.
