KARACHI: Ensuring food security should be the topmost priority of the government and all stakeholders need to collaborate to find solutions in this regard.

These views were expressed by Advisor to Chief Minister for Social Welfare Department of Sindh Shamim Mumta, the other day, while presiding over the Joint Advisory Group on Food Security meeting at Head Quarter Child Protection Authority, Karachi.

The meeting was organised by Plan International Pakistan under BMZ-supported Food Security Project.

Members of the local government and civil society organisations attended the meeting.

She said that joint forums can play an important role to facilitate the common people and make them aware regarding the perils of food security.

She advised the stakeholders to coordinate with the concerned departments’ heads as the food-insecurity must be dealt with.

The provincial advisor said that women of the rural and urban areas should be part of the joint efforts to be taken for tackling of the issue.

On the occasion, Project Manager Wajid Shams Memon, and Plan International Advocacy Officer Anwar Azad Mehar briefed about the current overview of the food security in the province on the basis of recently-conducted assessments in four districts of Sindh and discussed the food security policy framework and final proposed consultation plan.

The challenges to food security in the province are ever rising, they added.

They said that it has been decided to conduct more consultation meetings at the district level on food security with all stakeholders to resolve the challenges.
