Islamabad: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday issued a show cause notice to PTI Chief Imran Khan in contempt of court case.
The verdict had earlier been reserved, however, a five member Commission, headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (Retd) Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan, resumed hearing of the case in Islamabad on Thursday.
Imran Khan’s counsel, Babar Awan, at the last hearing had argued that only the high court and Supreme Court could proceed on cases regarding contempt as per the Constitution. However, the Commission ruled that it is within the ECP`s powers to take action on contempt of court.
The Commission seeks a reply from the PTI chief by the 23rd of this month over his “scandalous remarks” against the Commission.
