- Speaker-led Korean delegation holds talks at Foreign Affairs Ministry
- Asif apprises visiting lawmakers about Pakistan’s bid for NSG membership
Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Tuesday invited companies of South Korea to establish their units in Special Economic Zones (SEZs), being set up in all four provinces, Azad Jammu Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan and the tribal areas.
Talking to South Korea’s National Assembly Speaker Chung Sye-Kyun alongwith delegation here at the PM Office, he stressed the need to take pro-active measures to increase the quantum of bilateral trade. He invited the Korean companies to take full advantage of Pakistan’s liberal investment regime and invest in important sectors including energy, mining, agro-industry and in the IT sectors.
Prime Minister Abbasi said that Pakistan valued its excellent diplomatic ties of over three decades with Republic of Korea. He mentioned that friendly relations between the two countries had grown in all fields especially in trade and investment. Speaker Chung thanked the prime minister for the warm welcome and expressed the hope that bilateral relations would further strengthen.
The South Korean delegation comprised Parliament members Choung Byoung Gug, Kim Dong Cheol, Hong Moon Pyo, Baek Jae Hyun, Ahn Gyu Back and Lee Won Wook. National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq and other senior officials were also present.
ASIF-CHUNG MEETING: Minister for Foreign Affairs Khawaja Muhammad Asif also held delegation-level talks with Speaker Chung-led Korean delegation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the meeting, both the sides discussed cooperation in the areas of mutual interest and agreed to further strengthen cooperation in different fields.
Foreign Minister Asif also invited the Korean companies to invest in Pakistan. The Korean side was apprised of Pakistan’s bid for the membership of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) and the need for a criteria-based approach for new members.
The Korean speaker thanked the foreign minister for the warm welcome. He appreciated Pakistan’s economic growth and expressed a desire to further strengthen the bilateral relations.
