- Ex-PM says his goal to initiate a political debate in, outside of parliament
- ‘I have to complete my century now and I’m not one to sit idle at home’
Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Tuesday held a meeting with former prime minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.
During the meeting, current political situation came under discussion, according to a press release issued here by the PM Office. No further details shared with the media about the meeting.
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) leader Fazlur Rehman called on Prime Minister Abbasi at the PM Office. Review of development projects and political matters came under discussion during the meeting, a short statement said.
In an informal chat with journalists at the Punjab House, Nawaz Sharif said that although he respects the Supreme Court’s verdict ordering his disqualification, he has reservations about it. He wondered if the people’s mandate would ever be respected.
He said even former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani’s case should not have led to his disqualification. When asked if he would retire from the politics, Nawaz said, “I have to complete my century now.” He said that he was not one to sit idle at home.
“We did not send former ruler Pervez Musharraf abroad, the courts did,” he said, adding that security threats exist over his GT Road rally but he still has to go hometown. He said that he was sent out of the office and now he was going home.
He said that going home was not a power show. He said that his goal was to initiate a political debate in and outside of the parliament so no prime minister can be sent home the way he was. The former prime minister plans to move to Lahore in the shape of a rally via the GT Road.
