Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and Opposition leader Khursheed Shah, on Wednesday, said that ousted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s decision to stage a rally to connect with the masses comes too late, as it is of no use now.
“I have been advising him for four years but he didn’t pay any heed to me back then as power distorts people’s vision,” he said while talking to reporters in Islamabad.
He said wrong advice were being given to Nawaz Sharif.
Amid serious security threats and political challenges, Sharif went ahead with his rally from the federal capital to Lahore on Wednesday. Taking out a political rally is the right of every political leader and politics thrive on such risks, he said.
Shah opined that National Assembly’s term should be cut to four years. Shah also opposed early elections, saying that election should be held after the National Assembly completes its constitutional term. He claimed that the PPP had the solutions to all the problems faced by the country.
Shah further said that it was an inappropriate time to amend the Article 62 and 63. He said that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) had begged Nawaz Sharif for amending the article when the 18th Amendment was being passed.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi hinted at bringing a constructional amendment bill in the Parliament with the support of opposition parties to amend the articles which stipulated qualifications and disqualifications for members of the parliament and provincial assemblies.
To a question about PTI, Shah said that PPP was not engaged in any kind of negotiation or talks with PTI. “They are in opposition so we are too,” Shah commented.
