LAHORE: Nawaz Sharif is all set to hit the GT road in his bomb proof, air-conditioned, luxury container, today.
By doing this, Nawaz Sharif now joins the ranks of the leaderships of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), who have had to bear the brunt of severe criticism, for using bomb proof luxury shipping containers during their rallies/dharnas.
The container that has just reached the Punjab House, is fully equipped with all necessary facilities, including separate compartments for a drawing room and a bedroom.
The ousted prime minister is expected to begin the journey from Islamabad to Lahore, in shape of a public rally, shortly. He is also expected to make regular stops in order to address the public during his journey.
According to the plan, the rally will first reach D-Chowk from Punjab House, from where it will march towards Faizabad through Blue Area and Zero Point and then towards Lahore via the GT Road from Rawat.
All arrangements have been finalized and permission has been granted to the PML-N rally by the local administration. There are party banners, party flags and Nawaz Sharif’s posters, all along the route from Rawalpindi to Lahore.
Fool-proof security will be provided to the rally with over 6,000 security personnel deployed throughout the route.
It is being expected that the GT road will be heavily jammed for the next two days, hence the authorities have directed public transport vehicles, ambulances and fire brigades to use alternative routes.
The Supreme Court of Pakistan disqualified Nawaz Sharif on July 28 in a verdict on the Panama Papers leaks scandal.
