KP govt to establish research, development centre

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Pervez Khattak welcomed the agreement for the establishment of research and development centre and laboratories by Heifi Institute for Public Safety Research Tsinghua University, Beijing in collaboration with the KP Higher Education Department for the public safety and relevant technologies in the province.

He appreciated the collective efforts of Tsinghua University and KP Higher Education for mutually-agreed cooperation and especially the investment by Tsinghua University in the province.

The KP CM expressed these views after an agreement between the Tsinghua University, Beijing and KP Higher Education department for the establishment of the state-of-the art laboratory and RD centre in the province.

Advisor to Chief Minister Mushtaq Ghani and others attended.

The provincial government has planned different initiatives for foreign investment under the one belt one road and the agreement would further strengthen and reconcile the CPEC framework for investment, he added.

The agreement was signed by representatives of Tsinghua University, Peng Pu and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Higher Education Department.

Under the agreement, Tsinghua University will be responsible for the transfer of technology for the establishment of proposed international research centre in the province. The higher education department and Heifi Institute for Public Safety Research under the students’ exchange programme would facilitate students for the provision of free residential and research facilities for either six months or one year.

The Chinese government would give scholarships to five or ten students of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for undergraduate studies.

Under the agreement, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Higher Education would acquire land for the research centre and would arrange for building and required security for the institute. The higher education department as a partner of the Tsinghua University would identify different universities where investment would be facilitated under CPEC framework and law of the province and would arrange required manpower.

The higher education department of the province would give 50 per cent scholarships to the nominated students, staff, professionals and officials of Tsinghua University in the province. Under one-year exchange programme, students of Hitech and research of China and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would be facilitated. Under the agreement, the identified universities would ensure efficient utilisation of resources.
