Yasmin Rashid begins campaign in NA-120

–Accuses PML-N of using cheap tactics to overcome impending defeat

LAHORE: On Sunday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf’s nominated candidate for by-elections in NA-120, Dr Yasmin Rashid, carried out a door-to-door campaign on Temple Road and went to each house to distribute pamphlets among the people.

While speaking to media persons on the occasion, Rashid said that PML-N is fearful of defeat in the elections of NA-120 and has been unable to nominate a candidate suited to compete with PTI.

She said that workers of PML-N were harassing PTI women and Shehbaz Sharif would be responsible if any harm was brought to them. She further said that supporters of Nawaz and Shehbaz Sharif have no respect for women and the brothers are in no position to lecture others on morality when they themselves are absolutely corrupt. She also acknowledged the allegations of Ayesha Ahad, who she said has been demanding her rights for 7 years.

She added that after God, people of the constituency are her real security, even though it is the duty of the chief minister to provide people with safety. She said that PTI women have been working hard, going from one house to the other to campaign for the elections, despite the countless number of hurdles being placed in their way which is condemnable.

She said that 50 percent of the voters in Pakistan are women and in the last elections, a large number of them voted for PTI in NA-120.

She said that the disqualification of Nawaz Sharif and the fear of losing elections in the constituency have left the entire PML-N unnerved, which is why the party has resorted to cheap tactics, adding that the reality of Nawaz Sharif has been exposed before the entire country.

In the elections of 2013, Nawaz Sharif had won the NA-120 seat with Yasmin Rashid winning the 2nd most votes in the constituency. Following the decision of Supreme Court to disqualify Nawaz Sharif from holding public office, it was announced that by-elections would be held on September 17. Despite Shehbaz Sharif’s name being mentioned as the likely candidate to contest the by-elections, no final name has been nominated so far by PML-N. It is expected that a final decision will be made by Nawaz Sharif himself upon his arrival in Lahore.

Earlier, data from the Election Commission of Pakistan revealed that 24,000 new voters have been registered in the constituency since the General Elections of 2013.
