RAWALPINDI: In wake of growing health issues in children, the government has imposed a ban on selling fizzy drinks in canteens of all educational institutions across the province, including Rawalpindi division.
The Punjab government has also imposed a ban on selling fizzy drinks within a 100-metre radius of the educational institutions. This ban will be applicable to schools, colleges, whether government or private located in Punjab including Rawalpindi division. All heads of education institutions have also been written, in this regard.
The concerned authorities have been asked to ensure implementation on the directives. The contract of canteen owners would be cancelled upon violation of orders, they warned. A monitoring team has also been formed, which will conduct surprise raids and would brief the concerned authorities about implementation on orders.
The decision to impose a ban on the sale of fizzy drink was taken following the report of Punjab Food Authority, which disclosed that carbonated and phosphoric acids found in drinks were badly affecting the health of children.
