Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) Chief Dr Farooq Sattar on Saturday said that his party unconditionally supported Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) candidate Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in prime minister’s elections.
Dr Farooq Sattar, Qamar Mansoor, Rauf Siddiqui and others appeared before Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in provocative speech and attack on media house cases. MQM leader Amir Khan reached the court with a delay over which he submitted a written apology.
Talking to media after the hearing, Farooq Sattar said that Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair was concerned about the development in the province. He also credited him for improving relations between MQM-P and PML-N.
Opposition parties were not serious for premier elections as they failed to nominate joint candidate, he added.
On the other hand, An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Saturday extended interim bail granted to Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) Chief Dr Farooq Sattar and other leaders in around 25 cases pertaining to inflammatory speech by MQM founder Altaf Hussain till August 25.
The cases were filed against the MQM-P chief, the party founder and other leaders at various Karachi police stations after Altaf Hussain speech against the army and other state institutions.
The court has issued non-bailable warrants for MQM founder Altaf Hussain and other absconders and adjourned the hearing till August 19.
Farooq Sattar said that the process of hearings was continuing but we were satisfied. Investigation officer has to record my statement in one or two cases, he added.
Replying to a question, he said PTI and PPP by nominating their candidates for slot of Prime Minister only filled the blank. Therefore our party cast vote for PML-N candidate. Giving vote in favour of someone does not imply a nexus, he added. Such decisions are political decisions which are taken keeping in view national sovereignty and stability, he remarked.
We had cast vote in favour of PPP after disqualification of Yousuf Raza Gilani, he added. He said besides PPP, MQM too sought resignation of Nawaz.
