PESHAWAR: Kurram Agency’s political administration and tribal elders of the region have made a joint plan to address the issue of terrorism in the region and bring back peace.

According to the plan, people, with the help of tribal elders, from different walks will volunteer to help government and its law enforcing agencies.

MNA Sajid Ali Turi told Pakistan Today that first training session of these volunteers will be held at Parachinar, Kurram Agency, Monday evening.

In this respect, the authorities declared a curfew from 5 pm to 7 pm and during this period all civilian tribesmen have been directed to confine themselves to homes.

During the curfew, commercial activities were at halt.

Turi said that “in the light of activities of India and Afghanistan’s spy agencies in Afghanistan, law enforcing agencies and tribesmen are now on one page.” In this connection, he added, two sides agreed of extending help to each other.

From last one and half a decade, Kurram Agency, particularly its Shia population, was badly affected by terror and violence.

Parachinar and its surrounding areas are dominated by Shia community; therefore, they are under threat of terrorist acts, almost being carried out by hardline Sunni groups. A couple of months ago, from Islamic State militants distributed pamphlets in the region, threating people in Parachinar with dire consequences and also targeting Shias in Hangu, Kohat and Dera Ismael Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
